Offered in this sale is unusual Indonesian Silver “ZIPPO” Type Windproof Lighter simply hallmarked “ST 700”. The lighter is of an absorbed fluid type, with a traditional flip lid and appears to be in workable condition. One side is decorated in traditional flowing foliate motifs masterfully executed in deep repousse work while the other bears the Indonesian Cost of Arms above a blank cartouche for name or monogram.

Research has indicated that this is a good example of Yogya (or Jogya) Silver, produced by the Indonesian Master Silversmiths of the island of Java. This highly coveted class of Silver is characterised as a "Marriage of Javanese aesthetics to Western form" and has become highly collected in recent times and has been the subject of a major international exhibition in Amsterdam.

SIZE & CONDITION: The Lighter measures 2 3/4” (6.8 cm) by 1 1/2” (4 cm) and weighs 2.1 oz (60 g) without the insert (which is not made of silver and has been excluded from the weight). It is in very good used condition with some tarnish but no noted damage or repairs. The mechanism sparks, but I have not tried it with fuel.

MARKS: The Table lighter is simply marked “ST 700”, engraved on the base.
